Coin and Paper Money Collecting/golden dime

Question
Hi,   I recently came across a golden dime with the year 2000 on it and plant code D.  I know this is the same year the golden dollar was pressed... not sure if its worth anything.  Do you know if this is possibly a misprint... it doesent look like plating.

Answer
Hi John,

If not gold plated, most likely the golden color is caused by exposure to circulation or chemicals -- i.e. tarnish -- and would not have any collector value.

To determine otherwise would require first-hand examination by an expert, like a dealer at a coin show.  You can check the following websites for local show listings :

www.coinshows.com

www.coinworld.com

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
