Question
I read a couple of your answers and believe i have some fakes  1872 trade dollar, 1795, 1799, 1800 can someone tell by pictures because there is no dealers close to Gallup NM  thanks

Hello Jack,                             

Sorry, the only way to know a coin is a fake is to study what the real ones look like. I will give you the names of a few around your area. There may be some closer that are not American Numismatic Association Members.

An experienced eye is trained to look for the qualities that a minted coin should have. When there are features on a coin that do not look right you have to investigate further.
As a novice you can get the weight and diameter of a coin and compare it against what it should be.
If the metal is not pure it will have a different weight and sound.

I know there are many fakes, Replicas and counterfeits available on some of these dated coins.

A big ANA Show is in Phoenix this year. March 7th to 9th.

It will have hundreds of coin people there and authenticators from the major grading companies.
It will be easy to find how to check the authenticity of your coins there. There will be Professional graders there from PCGS at booth 118, NGC at booth 104, IGC at booth 110 and ANACS at booth 126 to give their opinion on your coins.
