Questionhi papajack I found a coin at a yard sale, In a old box of stamps. it is a wass molitor & co 50.00 dollars. looks like silver and says copy on it. IS IT worth anything? Thank you Dustin.
AnswerHello Dustin,
Reproduction coins have a very limited collector base and sell for different amounts depending on the metal used to make them.
If yours used a precious metal like gold, silver or copper it sells for more than a pewter, lead or other base metal one that was just plated with another silver or gold metal. But I see them selling around $10 USA.
Also the condition and finish on the coin add or detract from the sale value.
I have not seen any of the coins you mention fifty dollar more twenty dollar pieces are more common I guess.
These Reproductions are regularly sold at auctions; a replica sells from $1 to less than 30 dollars if copper or silver. And it has to be an accurate reproduction of the original coin.
If you still want an experienced coin-man to look at the piece for you I am happy to help find someone for you for free. If you write back with some postal zip codes in your area of the country and use the private question option by checking the box on the question page.
I can direct you to an AMERICAN NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION MEMBER/DEALER near there. They are ethical and trustworthy.
I hope this information helps.
Good Luck
PapaJack
