QuestionI found a coin that says Elizabeth II and Bermuda on one side with a picture of a woman with a crown. She looks about middle-aged to an older woman. On the other side, it says twenty-five cents, made in the year 2005. I would like some information on it.
Answer
Hello Grace,
Foreign coins are not my field.
The Bermuda Monetary Authority issues the coin you have and I do not see any special issue for 2005 except the 500th anniversary Commemorative coin.
Since its inception on 20th February 1969, the Bermuda Monetary Authority was granted responsibility by virtue of Section 9 of the Bermuda Monetary Authority Act 1969 for the issue Bermuda’s national currency – Bermuda dollars and cents. The design of the currency has always reflected traditional Bermuda landscapes, flora and fauna and it is this representation of unique Bermudian features that has made our currency of interest to dealers/numismatists both locally and overseas.
The Notes and Coins of Bermuda throughout the years are also featured in the Authority’s Note and Coin Exhibit located at the Authority’s main premises
Most of them are common and contain no precious metal. The Front of the coin has the latest image of a more mature Queen Elisabeth and the reverse of your coin has the Long-Tail Bermuda’s national bird.
Your library will have its facts listed in "the Standard Catalog of World Coins".
I know it will sell for less than a dollar at coin shows for a circulated specimen.
If you need more information for a coin shop near you in the USA feel free to write me again.
Thank You and Good Luck
