Coin and Paper Money Collecting/General Information

Question
I was hoping that you would be able to point me in a direction as well as give some basic information.  I have just started collecting coins.  I am starting with nickels, wheat pennies, and the statehood quarters.  I have some unique coins through family, but I am not focusing on a completing foreign coins yet.

What are resources you would recommend.  And knowing what I am focusing on currently where would you recommend me starting.

Answer
First off Chris, only collect PCGS and NGC Certified coins.  These are the 2 leaders in the industry.

Next, buy the highest grade coins you can afford and focus on acquiring the key dates first.  They tend to rise faster and later on, you may not be able to afford them.

Statehood quarters, although attractive, are readily available due to the huge numbers minted.  I suggest you stick with proven rare coins such as series that are no longer minted or the key dates in every series to create a Key Date Type Set.

Good Luck
