Coin and Paper Money Collecting/State Quarter

Question
I know that no gold State Quarters were produced by the US Mint. However, I have two mint rolls, that have not been tampered with in any visible manner. Both coins on each end of the rolls are gold (wash?) in color. I have been hesitant to cut a viewing panel, to view all of the rims.
I understand that the gold dollars are run through a wash?
Is it possible that these Quarters were mistakenly run through the same type wash?

Answer
Hello Oscar,

It is certainly possible that they were put through the wash, but highly unlikely.

What I guess has happened is that the rolls were stored in an environment that caused them to "tone".  Toning is normal oxidation of coins, however if it really is an even golden color with no blotching or other identifiable blemishes, you may want to open the roll.

I know of no quarters that have gone through the wash, but maybe the coins never got the outer layer of nickel and what you see is the copper core.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, open the rolls.  Worse case is you put them in plastic tubes or replace the rolls.

Good Luck
