Question
I'm thinking to buy some fairly expensive coins as investmenat for my kids and for the enjoyment.  I'm looking at a few different complete sets. One is a set of silver state quarters on ebay.  They are graded by PCGS at PR69Dcam.  They are asking just over $1000.  They are also the flag collection.  Am i throwing my money away as far as an investment?   I.m also looking a a set of 20TH ANNIVERSARY SILVER AMERICAN EAGLE SET BY NGC at MS69 1986-2005at over $2000.   What are your thoughts?

Answer
Hi Brian,

What I advise clients to do is to buy RARE coins.  The items you are speaking about are common, although they do look nice.  However, bear in mind that there are a huge number of these sets available.
I suggets you look at individual coins, key dates in the series, which are always in demand.

There are many key date Morgan Dollars, there are keys in the Mercury Dime and Washington Quarter series as well.

In a word, stay away from modern issue coins since there are just so many minted each year, stick with proven rarities.
