Question

i just got this quarter today and i was wondering if this was done by someone that had the quarter before me or was it a mistake from the US mint?

Answer
Hello Will,

I just saw this question was sent to the question pool some time ago and thought I may be able to help.

This sounds like it is an altered coin if all the images are struck on center.
Usually if a coin is undersize the raised edge is missing as well and the image is off center since the coin was not held in place properly.
Some one altered the coin after it left the U.S. Mint. These altered coins are not worth more to coin collectors.
For information even those that come with this defect from the mint sell for only a dollar.

There is a slight chance it was made on the wrong coin blank but this has to be seen by a knowledgeable person to be authenticated.
If you want a professionals opinion I may be able to locate a dealer in your area write me back, and check the private question box on the page, give me the nearest large City and postal zip codes.
I will refer you to an expert in your area who will give you a free opinion.

Good Luck
