Question
My mother found a couple of 20 and 10 dollar bills. One of the $20 bills says series 1950 A and G43685122B do you know the value? Also do you have suggestions of where to go in chicago illinois to find a dealer? Thank you very much!

Answer

Hello Eva,

Your 1950-A $20 Federal Reserve Note signed by Ivy Baker Priest and George M. Humphrey were printed from 1953 to 1957.

The note is not uncommon but did have some replacement notes made in the issue having a STAR “*” in the serial number. Depending on things like stains and folds its price will change drastically.

Federal Reserve Notes for this series date are valued about the same and are listed at retail from $40 to $70 in Crisp Uncirculated grade.

For $20 Federal Reserve Notes in grades below very fine trade at face value. If they grade Very fine =$22 and if they grade Extra Fine=$25
and Crisp Uncirculated lists retail for about $65.

Only after the grade is determined can you use a price guide, or can it be properly appraised.

Here are a couple of professionals in your area.
