Question
Hi, I have a few coins that I would like to know a ballpark estimate for.
The first is a 1856 large liberty head penny, it has one small wear area on
liberties head on the letters "LI", still legible though, the rest is sharp and
clear front and back.
The second is a 1857 eagle penny the front is a little worn cannot see fine
details on the eagle, the back is very clear and sharp.
The third is a 1997 penny that was mis- struck with a crescent moon shape
to the left of Lincoln's head.
The last is a 1985 quarter with some kind of mistake on the back, you can
only see the "U" in united and the "S" and part of the first "T" is missing in
states. It looks like some kind of blob or something, it goes right to the edge
of the eagles wing on the left side.
Thanks for your time,  Dan

Answer
Daniel,

The 1856 Large Cent is worth about $20.00

The 1857 Flying Eagle Cent is worth about $30.00

The 1997 off-center strike error penny is worth a couple dollars.

The 1985 quarter sounds like a cud error, where a piece of the die broke off before the coin was struck.  Value at about $10.00

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
