Question
I would like to find out how much silver is in the copy. On the side with the eagle under the right wing (left looking at it) it has the word COPY. I would like to know if it has the same amount of silver as a real morgan dollar or is just silver over lay? Thank you

Answer
Hello Allen,

Without examining the piece there is no way to tell how much silver or any metal is in the piece.
Many times they are made of 90% to 100% silver and have a certificate of authenticity stating the composition.

There were no production dollars made in 1895 only proof coins. This left a market for a replica coin since only a few could own an authentic one.
A real Morgan dollar weighed 26.73 grams of 90% silver so if the copy is authentic this should be the composition. If it was made as a pure silver round 31.1 grams is a full ounce of silver.

An ounce of silver will sell from $8 to $11 and as a replica coin it would sell for $30 maximum if you find the right buyer.
I hope this information helps.
