Question
I have found 4 $1.00 bills from 1917. They have a red treasury seal on them. They have been folded so they have creases in them, but they're not torn anywhere. I also have a few coins :a 1921 silver dollar ( Lady Liberty head? ), 1971 silver dollar ( Eisenhower ), 1826 50 cent   Liberty coin ), and a 1972 half dollar ( Kennedy ). Can you tell me if these are worth anything, and if I need a professional appraisal, can you recommend any in the Philadelphia area? Thank you very much.

Answer
Hello Diane,

There is  no real need to authenticate such common coins I have not seen or heard of counterfeits being made of your items.

For the $1.00 bills from 1917 with red treasury seal;
What size are the notes? Bigger than the current size? Is the red seal Small?
I need to know whose signatures are on the notes. They should have 2 signatures as modern notes still do.

I do not want to give you the wrong information on them and would appreciate the information rather than listing the many combinations that were issued.

1921 silver dollar;
This Year came in two types, The Morgan dollar and the Peace Dollar.

Almost anyone who collects is willing to buy the 1921 PEACE type Dollar. If it has never been cleaned or damaged it is a one year type coin and a great collectable.
The 1921 PEACE type dollars sell to collectors for $25 to $90 dollars in circulated grades and less to dealers.

The 1921 Morgan type sell to collectors for $10 to $13 dollars if circulated and less to dealers. And in very low grades or if very worn sell for the silver value only.

If possible go to a coin show in your area admission should be free but check, and go to any three dealers tables for their opinion.
You will easily sell it there.

1826 50 cent
This coin sells from $55 in low grade to $200 for the San Francisco issue if it is an Almost Un-circulated (AU) grade 50.

For the 1971 silver dollar and 1972 half dollar;
These modern coins are only collected in very high grades. If these are circulated the trade dealer to dealer for face value and at retail you might expect 15% over the face value for a nice specimen.

If you do want someone in the Philadelphia area to look at the pieces for you please write back with some ZIP CODES for your part of town.
Be sure to mark your question as private!

I will direct you to an AMERICAN NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION MEMBER/DEALER near there. They are ethical and trustworthy.

I look forward to hearing from you with more information.

Thank You and Good Luck
