Coin and Paper Money Collecting/2001 Gold Eagle

Question
Hi Dan,
My husband and I received a coin for our wedding from a family member.  I have no clue how much this could be worth.  It is a 2001 50.00 Gold Eagle 1oz gold coin.  It is in perfect condition, never been in circulation, we've never taken it out of the plastic sleeve it came in.  Can you give me some sort of idea what this might be worth?

Thanks in advance,
Stacie

Answer
Hello Stacie,

This is not Dan, I was referred your question by allexperts.com team.
Always remember the dollar amount you get for an ounce of gold goes up and down each day.

Gold is about $829 per ounce today so this is the minimum your Bullion Coin is worth.

If you are asking about them for “Numismatic Value” some Gold Eagle’s might be a good deal higher than the gold they contain.

Many people are not buying them now and this is why the mint slowed the production.

But people stopped buying them because of the price and the premium above the actual gold bullion value.

The bottom line for all these modern bullion coins at the time of liquidation are only worth the melt value of the precious metal they contain. If they are a rare date or Proof Version you should be able to find a coin collector that will pay more for your piece.

Good Luck
