Coin and Paper Money Collecting/.999 fine silver round?

Question
Hello Joe Hylas,

I recently purchased some silver rounds from a coin shop and I was
wondering if you can tell me anything about the authenticity of this coin. I
was looking for investment silver (not collectable) and this is what the coin
looks like.

Front. Drap bust women with the word "Liberty" on top seven stars run up
each side of the coins face. The bottom has no date at all.

Back. It has an heraldic eagle the words "ONE TROY OUNCE 999 FINE SILVER"
run around the top. I noticed at the bottom of the coin on the back it has two
letters D and Y or the Y could be a T?

So any thought on this being real .999 fine silver. The dealer would not tell
me where they came from. I assume he doesn't want me going direct? Or
perhaps really doesn't know?

Answer
Hi Rob,

This is merely a silver round that was struck to mimic the design of the old silver dollars.  It is not a coin, just a 1oz silver piece.

If it's truly .999 fine silver, I would not know.  I highly doubt a dealer would risk his reputation over a $10 item.  However, if you feel uncomfortable with it, ask him to exchange it for another piece.
