Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Cooper rimmed dimes

Question
It seems many people keep writing about the copper rimmed dime  that is smaller than a normal dime.

They all seem to be P marked and they vary in year.

I have one from 1993

I have seen many people listing different years, all P marked.

What is really happening?

The answers given do not seem to make sense?

Have you seen one of these coins yet?

Would love the experts to figure out this mystery with out silly lessons on HOW COINS ARE MADE...most get this.

Thanks

Answer
Certainly, if they are smaller than a normal dime, I have to ask if all the normal detail is there and in the correct position and proportion.

If not, I would wonder if the coin has been filed down to appear as an error.  The planchets that are used are precisily made, if the diameter is smaller and the design exceeds the coin, I would say the coin was tampered with.

However, I have not had the opportunity to examine one of these coins to determine the possibilities.

Why not send the coin to Numismatic Guarantee Corporation of Sarasota Florida?  I am sure they can figure it out for you, for a fee.
