Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Gold colored quarter

Question
Tonight I received  a gold colored Quarter dollar.  The date is 2001. The
reverse shows the lettering New York. There is a statue of liberty
superimposed on a map of New York state.  The face of the coin is a color
picture of Alex Rodriguez. The motto "in God we trust" is covered over by the
color portrait. To my eye everything appears to be rather crudely done. Never
heard of any program of these quarters. Info please

Answer
Mac,

Unfortunately, some private individual or company has ruined that coin by gold plating it and attaching a sticker to it.  It definitely did not come from the mint that way.  They would do this to sell these novelty items to unknowing collectors at extremely bloated prices -- a huge rip-off in my opinion -- same as these Obama coins you see advertised on TV lately.

Sorry but it is now considered a damaged coin and has no collector value.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
