Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Morgan Silver Dollar Values

Question
QUESTION: Hi Joe,

I have a handfull of common date Morgan Silver Dollars I'm trying to determine the "real value" of. I looked in the 2009 Blue Book for U.S. Coins, but none of my Morgans were listed for the grades I have. All these Morgans are either NGC or PCGS certified, and are as follows:

1. 1881-s PCGS MS-66
2. 1884-o PCGS MS-64
3. 1885 NGC MS-64
4. 1886 PCGS MS-64
5. 1902-o PCGS MS-64 (Old Rattler Holder)

Could you please tell me what I could expect to receive for each of these coins if I sold them to a dealer?. Also, is their a monthly resource for coin collectors to accurately determine the actual(dealer)value for their U.S. Gold and Silver coins?. To me, the Blue Book is inadequate since it doesn't list all the possible grades and values for many coins. I was hoping you might have some insight on a better way?. I thank you very much for your time.

Mike

ANSWER: Hi Mike,

First off, check out Coin Dealer Newsletter.  You can get it online either as a yearly subscription or a one-time thing.

The 81-S in 66 should bring about $200-220

The MS-64's will probably be in the $35-50 range.

I hope this helped.  Also, check eBay to see what collectors are willing to pay for these.

Good Luck

QUESTION: Hi Joe,

Thanks much for the information;it's greatly appreciated. I'll definately make a point to check out that newsletter. In the meantime, I had a couple other slabbed Morgans I forgot to ask you about:

1. 1878s NGC MS-64
2. 1898o NGC MS-64

Could you please tell me what a dealer would be willing to pay for each of these 2 coins?. Again, I thank you for your time and knowledge.

Best Regards,
Mike

Answer
The 1898-O in 64 is worth the same as the other common dates, $35-50

The 78-s is a little better and should trade for about $100-130

Good Luck, but again, check eBay and see what other collectors are paying for these coins.
