Questionyou responded to a question concerning a Joseph Eggleston Johnston medal, I recently purchased a lot at a auction that contains 5-6 of these medals, all different officers of the C.S.A...any help in identifying this collection would be appreciated...I can provide images if necessary...
AnswerHello William,
I am afraid I do not remember an answer or the question on "Joseph Eggleston Johnston" medal. If you can refresh my memory and send me the link of the question and answer you are referring to it would be great.
I am not listed as an expert on medals but I occasionally see them at the coin shows.
But I am happy to try to help you with this though. I am guessing the medals you have came without a certificate of authenticity or any case or holders for the pieces.
Pictures would be great but I need more information as well.
I will need to know some information about them.
What material are the medals made of?
How large are they?
Please tell me what inscriptions are on each of the pieces include any mottoes and any Dates. Make a list of each one if you can.
They were likely made in modern times for historical purposes.
In the 1960’s Civil War re-enactments were popular and even today many clubs have tokens printed for their members.
I look forward to hearing from you with more information.
Please make your question private.
Thank You and Good Luck
PapaJack
