Question
I have a couple of 1996 bills with a * at the end of the serial number Do you know approx. what they would be worth and if a $1 bill is worth more because of the mark?

Answer
Hello Jay,

Thanks for the question.

The 1996 $1 Star notes may sell to collectors for up to $5.00 in crisp uncirculated condition. If it is in a collectable grade.
They are not as collectable in less than crisp uncirculated grade.
This is according to the US Paper Money Price guide.

I am not sure how many of them were printed. You usually have to hang on to them longer than a few years for them to be more collectable. There are likely sources for them that are still issuing them from the banks.   But at this time they are only worth face value in less than Crisp Uncirculated Condition.

I hope this information helps!

Good Luck
