Question Where is the mint marks on a liberty head half dollar ? If they are plane with none how much is a 1941 good condition & 1942 excellent condition worth ?
Answer
Hello John,
Silver coins made prior to 1965 are trading about 10 times the face value.
This is about $5 for a worn circulated Walking Liberty half dollar just for the silver content alone.
Both of these coins are collectable for their design and there are some hard to get dates and mint marks that makes them more valuable, like the 1921 dates. But the 1938 to 1947 are common coins.
For a grade of Good-4 they trade around $7 each and in A circulated grade of Extremely Fine-40 the are valued about $8.50The D and S mintmarks are more valued but only in grades higher than 45.
The higher price is for the numismatic value it may have. This higher value is decided by the state of preservation on the coin.
Look for the Mint Mark. If it has one, it will be on the reverse, near the bottom left, close to the rim and below the leaves.
I hope this information helps.
