Question

coins012
What is it and its worth.

Answer
This is a New Jersey Copper. It can be called a cent but it is state issued, not Federal. These were made by Thomas Goadsby under the authority of the New Jersey colonial legislature sometime before June 1788. There are maybe a hundred different varieties and I don't know them all, but on average, in this condition, which is cleaned, somewhere between $25.00 and $100.00, depending on the variety.
