Question
QUESTION: Are silver rounds a safe investment in this economy?  Also I have several rolls of the Washington presidential dollars that came out in 2007.  How do you tell what the mint on them are and do you believe that they will increase in value?

ANSWER: Hi Bill,

The mintmark is located right after the date, it should read 2007-P or 2007-D
P signifies Philadelphia, D signifies Denver.  First year issues are always highly collected, however so many were minted that it will be some time before they appreciate.  Unless of course you have the ones that do not have the edge inscription with the date and In God We Trust.  These are currently worth about $100 each

I think all precious metals are a sound "investment" in this economy.  I don't like to use the term investment since the traditional definition of an investment is something that pays dividens or increases in value.  The purpose of owning precious metals, (gold and silver), is to maintain purchasing power.  As the dollar weakens, it takes more "dollars" to buy the same amount of precious metals, hence they maintain their purchasing power.

I hope this helped you.

QUESTION: How do you find the mint on the presidential dollars that are still in the new banks rolls when the mint is on the edge of the coin without opening up the roll?

Answer
Hi Bill,

If you rec'd the rolls from a local bank, most likely they will be from the mint closest to your location; eg. if you are in California, they would be Denver coins.

If you acquired them somewhere else, and the roll is not marked, you will have to open the roll.
