Question
I have a 1776-1976 Fifty State Bicentennial medal collection of solid sterling coins. I am think I want to sell it, but do not know it's value.  Any help would be great.  All coins are sealed and book is in excellent condition

Answer
Michael,

Unfortunately, there is virtually no secondary market for these items -- other than for the bullion value of the silver contained in the coins.

So what you need to do is remove each coin from any capsule or container it may be in, weight them in TROY ounces, multiply by .925 for being Sterling, then multiply by the current price of silver (see www.kitco.com) -- currently about $17.00 per ounce -- then multiply by .90 to .95 for the dealer's profit margin, and the result will be a good estimate of what you can expect to receive for the coins.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
