Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1944 US Coin - Unknown Denomination

Question
Dear Sir,

I have a 1944 US coin that is brownish in color and about the size of a Washington quarter.  However, the image on the obverse is a shield topped by an eagle with outspread wings.  The reverse is fairly well worn but appears to have a figure sitting/reclining facing slightly to the right.

Have you any idea what this coin is and what its value might be?

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Sean

Answer
Hello Sean,

Without seeing it is hard to say.
I can tell you no US Coin was made that year that you would not be familiar with.
The 1944 coins were the same denominations One Cent, Five Cent, Ten Cent, Quarter and Half dollar, there were no dollars made that year) as we use today and the same size (except for the new Dollar).

If you want to locate a coin shop in your area write me back, give me the nearest large Cities, some postal zip codes and telephone area codes. I will refer you to an expert in your area.

I hope this information helps.

Good Luck
