Hi, have you ever seen or heard of a zink or aluminum 1997 Denver mint penny? Thanks, Warren
Warren,
Since all pennies made after 1982 are 95% zinc, with a thin outer copper coating, I would bet that what you have is one of the many known unfinished planchet errors -- made from a zinc blank that never got its outer copper layer.
Value is about a dollar.
