Question
i have an Indian head penny and i want to know how much money it is worth. it is a little beat up but you can still read all the words. it is a 1901.

Answer
Hello Maggie,

I can only give you a range of value just so you can see the difference in pricing as the grade changes.

Coins are valued on a scale from 1 to 70. And on how rare a coin is. With no or little experience it is sometimes easier letting another collector look at them, and even most coin shops will help for free on one or two pieces.

For a 1901 Philadelphia mint cent:

Very Good (Grade-8) at least 3 letters of Liberty in headband = $1.25
Fine (grade-12) all letters of liberty show in headband = $2.00
Very Fine (grade-20) all the letters in headband evenly plain. = $3.00
Extremely Fine (grade-40) All letters are sharp and distinct as is the whole headband. = $7.00 and
Almost Un-circulated (grade-50) Very little wear, most of the mint luster shows etc. = $15.00

Thank You and Good Luck
