Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Nickel worth

Question
I have an 1803 nickel.  Is it worth anything more than a nickel?

Answer
Katarzyna, no U.S. nickel was made in 1803.  The first was in 1866.  A half dime piece was made out of silver in 1803, with face value of 5 cents.  That very early U.S. piece is quite valuable, depending on condition.  If that's what you have, go to www.ebay.com and do a search for 1803 half dime and see what's selling and at what price.  If any are for sale, you'll see pictures.  Try the same search at www.google.com.  If you have something else, like a 1903 nickel try the appropriate searches at the same place and see what's selling.  Good luck, Jim Lawniczak
