Question
I have a 1884 Morgan S mint is it very rare?

Answer
Steve,

There were 3.2 million of them minted -- overall an average mintage.

They are common in circulated condition -- worth about $13

In a condition very close to uncirculated (AKA A.U.) they are worth about $175

And in truly uncirculated condition, they are exceedingly rare, and worth thousands of dollars.  But you would need to have it certified as uncirculated to realize that kind of value.

Here is a website that should give you some kind of an idea of the condition of your coin :

If you feel your coin could be uncirculated (or very close to that), you should take it to a dealer to have it examined.  You can do this at any coin show.

Listings of local coin shows may be found at these websites :

www.coinshows.com

www.coinworld.com

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
