Question
I have alot of coins that I'm trying to sell.I would like to know if maybe you could put some figures on these.#1-1957D double date wheat penny. This is not like the 55 I see all the time because my coin looks like the second date is overlaped and slighty to the right.#2-1997 quarter that has a huge double rim at the top and down the side with no rim at the bottom.#3-A wide rim susan b.#4-A kenedy half with no rim at all.#5-A 1990 no s penny that looks great but I was told that these are not worth anything unless it is perfect.I also have alot of red and red and brown wheats some look brand new but again was told that they are not worth much.Would greatly appreciate your help because I can not afford to lose any money on these and I'm finding out that there are alot of people on ebay that like to tell people that there coins are worth nothing but they are willing to make me a offer to take them off my hands.

Answer
Hugh,

The 1957D penny is probably a strike double -- worth less than a dollar.

The 1997 quarter sounds like it was struck out of collar -- worth a dollar or two.

The wide rim 1979-P Susan B. Anthony Dollar is worth about $2.00 in circulated condition -- perhaps $5.00 for a nice uncirculated one.

The Kennedy with no rim would need first hand inspection -- it could be struck on a different planchet, or it could be altered -- so it could be woth over $100 or it could be worth nothing.

As for the 1990 No-S penny, if you have one, and it is a PROOF coin -- the coin from the proof set, not the regular penny released for circulation -- it is worth about $5,000.00.  If it is not the proof, then it has essentially no value.

And for the uncirculated cents from the 1940's and 1950's, unless they are certified as high grade red coins (at least MS-66 RED), they are generally worth 25 cents or less.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
