Question
I found a 2000 penny that looks like it is made out of lead like the 1943 penny. There is no ment mark on it. I was wondering if that is possible. thanks Brenda

Answer
Hello, Brenda, I don't know of any U.S. coin ever made out of lead.  The 1943 cent was made out of zinc coated steel.  The regular 2000 cent was made out of copper coated zinc.  My guess is that someone stripped off the copper coating from your 2000 cent, thus exposing the zinc, which is silver in color.  Jim Lawniczak
