Question
I have a 1901 U.S. coin, silver, with a capital V on the back and a lady on the front surrounded by stars. what is the value of this coin?

Answer
Hello,

You have a U.S. "Liberty nickel", although silver in color it is a copper/nickel alloy.  This is considered an average coin.
The back side is a wreath with the Roman numeral V (five) and the other side has an allegorical figure of Lady Liberty. Sometimes called "V nickels" since the denomination is given with the Roman numeral "V". In worn condition it'd be worth $1-3.

Above the V and wreath should be "United States of America".

The Liberty head nickel was made from 1883 to 1912 at the Philadelphia mint and only the 1912 issue was made at the Denver and San Francisco mints as well as at Philadelphia.

If there any more information you require on this question just ask.

Thank You and Good Luck
