Question
QUESTION: I had a guy approach me with a walking liberty half dollar that is struck on both sides with just the eagle.  Do you know how many were done this way and what it is worth in fair circulated condition?

ANSWER: Troy,

It is a manufactured novelty item, made from two coins, altered and glued back together.

Assuming the weight's the same, it has about $6.00 worth of silver in it.

Since these are rarely done with such old coins, it would have a novelty value of $10 to $20.

QUESTION: I examined the coin for that and could not see a cut on the side of the coin?

Answer
Usually the seam is found just inside the raised rim, on one side of the coin or the other.  This way the outside edge is kept intact.  You may need to use a magnifier to examine both sides, looking for the seam along the inside edge of the raised rim.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
