Question
I found this VERY worn out coin in an antique desk I just got. I'm curious as to what it is. The one side is so worn out I can't even describe what it once was. It is now almost smooth. The other side seems to have a Roman numeral III in the center, surrounded by the letter "C" running along the outside of the coin (around the C). It's very small, smaller than a current day dime, as well as thinner. Again, I'm just wondering what it might be. Thanks for your time. The only additional "clue" I can give you is that in the same drawer I found a 1920 Canadian nickel. Maybe the money is Canadian, not American. But I live in Pennsylvania, so who knows if the desk or previous owner was once located in Canada? Again, I appreiciate your time. Have a nice evening.

You have found a 3-Cent silver piece -- minted 1851-1873
