Question
I have an 1825 coronet liberty 1 cent piece. It is in probably 6 to 12 condition. On the reverse where it says one cent looks like it was burnt.  But "United States of America" is very bold.  The only weird thing about this coin is that it has a 15-20 degree clockwise rotation.  What is wrong with this coin?  How much is it worth?

Answer
Hello Robert,

For coins of this vintage having a die rotation of only 15 degrees in not unusual, the mint was still refining the coining process.  It should not really impact the market value on the coin.
What you describe as a 'burnt spot' is a bigger factor in the value. It is retailed from $30 to $45 in the grades you mentioned. You may get the high price from someone who finds the rotated die of interest or the low value if the coin was indeed burned.

Good Luck
