Coin and Paper Money Collecting/One Centavo Coin 1926

Question
Hello Dan,
You answered a question similar to this recently, so we are asking you about another Phillipine coin.  My 9 year old son just found a 1926 one centavo coin in a bunch of old coins we had around. Ours does not have the "S" to the left of the date - it has a very tiny "M" underneath a dot and there is a dot to the right of the date as well. This coin is in normal wear condition, nothing spectacular, but my son is really interested in it and I thought we'd get as much info as we could.  Who knows - maybe it will spark a life long hobby for him!! Thanks for your help.

Answer
Molly,

In 1920, mintage of the Philippine coins was moved to facilities in Manila.  So from then on (other than 1944 & 1945), all coins were minted there -- most having the "M" mintmark.

In 1926, mintage was 9 million, so in circulated condition, its value is a dollar or two.

For more info about these and other coins you may consider buying a copy of the "Red Book", available here :

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
