Question
Dan,
Could you please help me figure out what this is? I do know that it is a Liberty head nickel but both sides are the V cents side. There is no date, no mint mark, and no heads to this coin. There is almost no wear on the coin but there are a few dark spots. I can send pictures later if you would like. The coin also shows no sign of being tampered with, so far as I can tell.

I'm sure you have an altered coin -- a magician's coin novelty item.
Pictures probably wouldn't help -- they just wouldn't be clear enough. You need to use a strong magnifier and check both sides of the coin, just inside the raised rims, looking for a seam where the two altered pieces have been fit back together. Either that or take it to a coin dealer who can examine it first-hand.
These novelty items sell for a couple dollars, on eBay or in magic shops.
