Question
QUESTION: What are the differences between a round bust vs a pointed bust 1860 Indian cent? I have a couple of these and they both look the same as any other Indian cent.

ANSWER: Bruce,

The different busts appear on the 1864 cent (not the 1860).  See the pictures on the web pages listed below.

Round Bust :

Pointed Bust :

Note the difference in the point of the bust (on the left side) -- one is rounded and the other is more pointed.

I hope this helps,

Dan

QUESTION: Thanks for the info, I can surely see the difference in the 2 links you gave me. But I'm still confused because in my 2008 U.S. Coin Digest they list 1860 Indian cent in both varieties. Is that an error in the book?

Answer
Upon further investigation, I see that there is a pointed bust variety listed for the 1860 cent.  But, not having a spot for it included in the collecting albums, it is generally ignored.  And the price difference between pointed and round is minor.  The 1864 varieties are the only one most collectors concentrate on.
