Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Old Belt Buckle

Question

Front and back of buck
Hi, I have this old belt buckle and would like to know if you can tell me anything about it. It has an image of a woman holding and feeding what appears to be an eagle. On the back it is stamped Roni New York, it also has Britannia stamped on it, along with the number 112. It also has an old dime on the back (I can't make out the date). I think the buckle might be made out of silver. It is tarnished and I am wondering if I should clean it.

Thank you very much,

Steve

Answer
Hi Steve,
While it is a pretty piece, it si probably a "craftsman" piece and maybe one of a kind.  Putting a value on it will be tough.
However, a light cleaning won't hurt at this point but leave some of the "toning" to highlight the details.
When I polish silver, I use "Cape Cod" polishing cloths.  They work well and are non abrasive.  Perfect for sterling silverware and items like yours.
