Coin and Paper Money Collecting/strange quarter

Question
I have a 1964 quarter that appears to be made of aluminum - at first I thought it was a fake because it is so light.  The coin has some wear, but not what I would expect of a 1964 quarter - the serration on the edge are very strong.  Any word on a 1964 Washington Quarter being struck in aluminum?

Answer
Hello Ryan,

I found no record of any off metal strikes being found from 1964.
Why do you think you have an aluminum coin?
All the coins were made in Silver that year. A well made or proof issue one will have sharp edges and detailed design images.
One in high grade will sell for more than $4.00 even a circulated grade will get about $2.75 or more.

I hope this information helps.

Thank You and Good Luck
