Question i have an 1891 silver dollar it is in good condition but has been circulated it is of the "o" ment i have been told many stories but i have come to realize its not worth what others have said i would like to know what you think thanks so verry much for your time
Answer Hi Angela,
The "O" means that it was made in New Orleans.
The New Orleans mint usually made fewer coins than the Philadelphia mint and so their coins are sometimes worth more than "usual" for the date, but not always - it depends on how many were made each year.
In 1891, the New Orleans mint made 7.9 million silver dollars, versus 8.6 million for the Philadelphia mint. As the mintages are similar, both are valued by the "Red Book" at $16 in "very fine" condition.
