Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1910d Wheat cent

Question
I have three 1910D cents each of which appears to have a subtly different location for the "D" mintmark. In addition, one of the mint marks is noticeably different from the others. Is this common? Thanks

Joe

Answer
Hello Joe,

I found no listing for an rpm or mis-placed mint mark on the 1910 D cent. RPM is an abbreviation for re-punched mint mark.

This does not mean you do not have one just that there is no listing for one.
You can try CONECA at   http://conecaonline.org the club is the best in identifying new and rediscovered dies and/or die errors.

Mint mark placement did vary from die to die in those years. The Mint Mark Letter was added by hand just as the date was. Depending on the skill of the worker both the date and mint mark varied in location on the coins. It is considered normal and these varieties as they are called do not get a premium price above what the collectable coin market has already established according to the coins grade.
