Question
Hey Dan, I recently found your website and I have a question about a coin I have had for a few years now. The coin is a 1999 Susan B Anthony struck on a sacajawea planchet.

I read about the error a few years ago on the buyers numismatic corp website but I have been unable to find it as of late. About 5 years ago I know they had found 3 coins with the same error, mine has never been appraised because I have not been sure who to go to. I saw the ebay auction on buyers website and the coin sold for $17,500.

I was wondering if you were familiar with this error and where I could go to get it accurately appraised. I live in the Seattle area but I am not sure who to trust with such an investment.

Thank you very much for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

Jeremy S.

Answer
Jeremy,

First go to the pcgs website and find the authorized dealers in your area :

http://www.pcgs.com/dealers/default.aspx

Then go to the ANA website to check the dealer directory (under the membership tab) to see that the dealer is listed there :

http://www.money.org

Then contact the dealer to meet and submit the coin.

When you get the coin back, then you can contact one of the major auction galleries about submitting it to one of their future auctions :

Heritage -- http://www.ha.com
Superior -- http://www.sgbh.com
Stacks -- http://www.stacks.com

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
