Coin and Paper Money Collecting/New Hampshire quarter

Question
I received a N.H. state quarter that appears to be a weak strike. The coin appears thinner than a normal quarter and the outer edges on the obverse and reverse appear weak and you can only see about half of the writing on both sides. Also, the quarter appears to not be completely round. It looks more like an error coin instead of being a worn out coin. Have you heard of this before? I don't care about the value. I just want to know if you have heard of this, have see it before. In fact, if you want it, I can send it to you. First and formost please tell me what you know.

Answer
Pierre,

I have heard of things like this before.  It sounds like your coin was struck on the wrong planchet -- like maybe the planchet for a nickel.  This would explain all the characteristics you described.  If so, it could be worth over a hundred dollars.

You need to get it examined first hand by an expert to see what you have.  Try checking the following websites for listings of coin shows in your area, where you can take the coin to be examined :

Good luck,

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
