Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Roosevelt dimes and pennies
Expert: PAPAJACK - 5/22/2008
QuestionI have a set of Roosevelt dimes, 1946 through 1964,also assorted pennies from 1909 through 1962. I found these when I was sorting out some things my father had saved. I have no idea how to put a value on them. Can you give me some help? Thanks, Emily
AnswerHello Emily,
If you are only looking to list the value for an inheritance you could use the face value, this is what you would get if you deposited them in a bank. Or you could sell them as silver getting about 11 to 14 times the face value of US silver coins.
You should realize unless the coins are RARE or Very High Quality they are not that valuable. Like most circulated Silver coins are only selling about 12 times the face value.
For the other “assorted pennies from 1909 through 1962” in a One Cent folder the coins have not risen in value too much. You might get the best profit selling them as a complete set; it may sell for more to new collectors would not have these albums already than a dealer.
If you write back with the general location (nearest large cities) and telephone area code or codes and some zip codes in your area, I can direct you to an AMERICAN NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION MEMBER/DEALER near there. They are ethical and trustworthy.
Or there is help with this at most coin shows if there is one in the area you can choose your own dealer.
Thank You and Good Luck
