Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Silver 1987 penny

Question
I run a restaurant and I see a lot of change go through but I came across a rare looking silver penny dated to 1987 that looked very similar to a dime. I did a little research and all I came up with was a 1943 silver penny that was made due to war efforts. Can you tell me anything about this 1987 penny?

Answer
HI Chad,
I would have to see the coin but there have been cases of pennies struck on dime blanks, pennies that have lost their copper plating (since 1982 cents are zinc with copper plating), or a penny blank that never rec'd the copper plating.

In any case, they are worth between $25 and $100, and I do buy them.
