Question
I was wondering if this nickel is rare and if it was worth anything. I recently came up on one of these nickels. It was the first and only one I've ever seen.

Answer
Hello Regina,

The wrong answer was sent to your question!
here is the updated answer.

This coin was made at all three US mints that year, it is not rare at all, but there are 2 versions of the coin. Does yours have a large mint mark letter (P, D or S) on the reverse? If it does it sells for a couple of dollars.
These are nick-named War Nickel's since they contain 35% silver they have the mint mark letter P,D or S stamped over Monticello on the reverse.
They sell from 50 cents to three dollars depending on the state of preservation.

If it does not have the letter on the back over the dome it is the normal Copper/Nickel alloy we use on modern nickels.

I hope this information helps. Please remember to rate this answer. And check the nomination box on the rating page below any comments you may have.

Thank You and Good Luck
