Question
My husband has had a 1965 quarter in his family for many years. It is worn. It appears that the i in God we trust isn't there, and also, the quarter bends slightly to pressure. Would it be worth anything? We've researched it online, and cannot find any information on it. Thank you. Gail and Mike Sporbert

Answer
Hello Gail,

This sounds like it may be a fake coin. Since you stated both the weak lettering and how maliable the metal. But there are conditions where letters or digits are missing from coins due to something called a filled die.
You can check its weight to be sure. The 1965 Washington quarter weighs 5.67 grams. And the Quarters made prior to 1964 had a weight of 6.25 grams.

Also look for a copper layer on the reeded edge. If the weight is correct Please write me again you could have a 1965 Quarter made on a 1964 coin blank and it may be worth money.

If you need a dealer near you to look at the piece feel free to write me back.

Good Luck
