Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1972 misprinted penny

Question
I have a 1972 penny that has about 1/3 of the face printed on the front side and about the same on the back. The rest of the coin on both sides is blank. Have you ever hear of this. Is it worth anything or is it just a good conversation piece?

Answer
Hello Marlayne,

This sounds like an error!
It would be an off center strike error and this does happen regularly at the mint.
They sell for less than five dollars to error coin collectors for the One Cent error. They sell for less to coin dealers though since it is a common error.

I hope this information helps. Please remember to rate this answer. And check the nomination box on the rating page below any comments you may have.
