Hi Dan I have> a 1828 large one cent copper coin, What does F VF and XF Mean I'll send you a picture of this coin. Please let me know if it has any value. Thank's

Answer
Roy,

F, VF and XF are designations for different grades assigned to coins based on the amount of original detail still remaining on the coin.  In order from most wear to least, it goes F (fine), VF (very fine), and then XF (extra fine).

From your picture it appears that your coin is severely corroded, as if it has been in the ground for a significant amount of time.  As such, its value to collectors is very low -- perhaps a couple dollars.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
