Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Worth Anything?

Question
Are these coins worth anything - From 1944 and on the front it looks like a foreign coin; i.e., says fifty centavos or five centavos and Filipinas but on the back it says United States of America.

Answer
Georgia,

These coins were minted by the U.S. for its sovereign entity, the Philippines, at the San Francisco Mint.

There were 19 million of them minted in 1944.

There is a small amount of silver in them, and with the current silver prices, their value will be based on that silver content -- unless they are still in uncirculated condition.

The silver value is a couple dollars -- a nice uncirculated one has a collector value of about $5.00

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
